Kutná Hora Tour
Kutná Hora, a UNESCO Heritage city, was a mining town in the 13th and 14th centuries. Rich deposits of silver made Kutná Hora into one of the wealthiest and most important Bohemian cities. The wealth contributed to the outstanding architecture that can still be seen today. The Cathedral of Saint Barbara (1380), is considered to be one of Europe's finest. Designed by Peter Parker, the same architect who designed the famous Saint Vitus Cathedral, that towers above the Prague Castle. A walk around this historical town will reveal much beauty, such as the Italian Court and the Stone Fountain. Lunch at a restaurant overlooking the beautiful Bohemian countryside will be followed by a visit to one of the Czech Republics most bizarre sights, the Ossuary Chapel of All Saints, or the Bone Church, as the locals refer to it. The Chapel dates from the 14th century. Various epidemics over the centuries created such a demand for burial plots that eventually skeletal remains were left unattended. In 1870 a Czech named Frantisek Rint began turning the bones into the macabre but highly artistic display you can see today. Bone chalises, bone crosses, an incredible chandalier made from every bone in the human body, and displays of human skeletal heads. All of this have insured that the Chapel is one of the most visited places for tourists in the country. Not for the faint hearted!
