General Security Advice
  • At most clubs in Prague you will get a 'drink ticket' - also called consumption card. Your consumption will be noted on this paper. Payment usually is when you leave the place. If you loose the ticket usually a high penalty fee is required. Make sure to be careful with your drink tickets and also check for padding of the bills.
  • If you take someone to your place please take care about your valuables. If your room or apartment has a safe or if there is a safe at the reception of your guest house or hotel please use it.
  • If you take a sexworkers service do not force him to do any practice he don't want. Agree on everything in advance: the cost, the sexual practices wanted, and the time. This prevents many problems from occurring.

  • Comment by Dario, who visited in July 2005: Absolutely brillant. It is near the TV station antena. Its well connected by tram. It has private rooms and dark room, I was forced to take all my clothes off. But, then it had enough light to make for a friendly environment. In the bar area people are friendly and talkative and in the cruising area there is absolutely no attitute. Hey, I got lucky as soon as I got in!
  • Comment by Peter, who visited in March 2006: I was there on a Sunday night. The underwear party. It was scary at first since i never been to one, but it tuned out to be fun even just to watch.
  • Comment by Melvin, who visited in September 2006: Went to the naked or underwear party there Sunday. Great place. Great staff and great fun. Visted it every night and ever night was loads going on.
  • David wrote in November 2007: Supposed to be a leather/rubber/uniform place but if you're not into the dress code it's no problem. Lots of facilities: Slings, w/s rooms, glory holes, porn cabins, cages. Something for everyone!
  • Melvyn wrote in December 2007: Since club Real closed Alcatraz now has a completely naked party on Thursday nights from 22.00. Dress code Naked, boots or shoes only.
  • Paul wrote in December 2007: I visited in 2007. My fetish is golden showers and as advertised they do have a room for this. It is a prison cell with a bath tub but the locals dont seem to be into it. I sat in the tub for 3 hours two night and got very little only a few splashes from one guy each night. I have read reviews about friendly staff but thats not my experience, when I was paying my bill at the bar on the last night a guy who had seen me in the tub said something in Czech and they all started laughing at me including the bar men. Guys go to these places because they think their fetishes will be accepted but I was made feel stupid. Very different to my experiences at the Boots in Antwerp. I dont recommend it.
  • William wrote in April 2008: I went to the underwear-nude party, Sunday from 9pm. I got there about 10.30pm and it was busy, and got better up to 1am. Nice staff, low prices, relaxed atmosphere, most people naked. It's not London, but it was fun!
  • Munky wrote in August 2008: Visited June 2008. Cruise bar hidden in the back streets of Prague. Underground, dark smokey, rather run down. Usual porn videos, and dark areas (some very dark). Not particularly friendly or welcoming.
  • James wrote in August 2009: Did a walk by of Alcatraz during the day. It was in a scary neighborhood so I didn't go back at night. Looked very run-down from the outside.
  • Derek wrote in October 2009: I found this place great! If you visit places like Boots in Antwerp, skinhead weekends, BLUF events - this is the place for you. Hot skinhead works the door.

  • Comment by James who visited in August 2005: It is the scariest place I have ever visited. It is like something from the 70's or 80's in New York/San Francisco. And even after I read the description of the place in the Gay Guide, it didn't prepare me for the place when we got there. Firstly, the barman was friendly enough and explained the entrance fee and what it included. It was easy enough to find. There is porn on the tv's in the bar, which is fine, but the big sign which says 'Glory Holes, Cinema, Video Kabins, Darkroom' was a little off putting. I am glad I went with my boyfriend or I dont know what might have happened. The most worrying part was when the cleaner came up from the darkroom with a huge handfull of used tissues. If you are used to this sort of thing, then I doubt you would be fazed. This is not for the faint of heart.
  • Comment by Tom, who visited in January 2006: The comments from James as are wrong. This was the friendliest and best place I visited in Prague. There are now terrific live shows every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The place has been newly upgraded, staff were great, so where other customers. Video cabins and dungeon are real exciting and not scarry at all. I would suggest if you visit one place in Prague that you make it Drakes.
  • Comment by Billy who visited in February 2006: Anyone visiting this club should not fear anything. It appeals to a certain corner of the gay market who prefer sex anonomously, like to pay for sex with a good looking guy or simply have a drink and watch porn. The choice is yours. You are issued with a 24 hour ticket which can be useful. When I was there last, there was a show downstairs in the cage where 2 muscular guys stripped off and if you fed them money you could feel parts of their body. How much depended on you. I find it difficult to take onboard the naivity of people especially if you are gay. The internet is informative and anyone visiting this club should prepare themselves. Nothing about it is shocking. If you are approached by a hustler engage in conversation if you want to. If a massage is suggested simply say No unless you want it of course.
  • Comment by John, who visited in February 2006: They do not have daily strip shows and they no longer have an escort/rentboy service. In fact the last few times I have been in recently there is absolutely nothing happening. This bar used to be great but it is now very boring.
  • Comment by Billy, who visited in June 2006: I noticed it has been redecorated and redesigned. However where had all the good looking guys gone? The hustlers were very few.
  • Comment by Johnny, who visited in June 2006: I've been to Drake's in Prague many times in the last few months. I think there's some confusion here regarding the status of Drake's. First of all, Drake's is not a rent boy bar. It says in your listing 'most Czech guys here are rent boys.' This is simply not true. While Drake's used to be a brothel (around 10 years ago!), it is now mainly a sex club. As for the guy who was freaked out by the fact that there are glory holes, cinema, video cabins, darkroom': Well, sorry dude, but that's what going to a sex club entails. 'Not for the faint of heart'? No, just not for prudes! Drake's is a lot of fun. It's not scary at all. The bar staff is nice and friendly, there are hot guys of all ages who frequent the place. The weekends are great, especially the Friday night cage show, which is a must for all gay visitors to Prague! They also do shows on Saturday and Sunday nights. Many of these shows feature models from William Higgins movies and the website....Hot! If you're looking for a fun, different experience in Prague with sexy guys that's not your everyday run-of-the-mill gay bar, then you should really consider giving Drake's a chance. It's a lot of fun, believe me.
  • Comment by Mark, who visited in August 2006: I don't agree with James comments at all. This is one of the best sex bars in Prague with a good labyrinth and a range of sexy guys: very cruisy. You don't have to be faint-hearted to go here, just curious and horny. A friendly place.
  • Comment by Bill, who visited in August 2006: Too many male hookers. Its ok if thats what your looking for. Bartenders are rude and nasty. They would not even call me a taxi as most clubs in Europe do. There are better places in Prague. One is called Heaven Sexshop and it is cute young guys looking for fun, not hookers. Too many male hookers. Its ok if thats what your looking for. Bartenders are rude and nasty. They would not even call me a taxi as most clubs in Europe do. There are better places in Prague. • Comment by Evertjan, who visited in September 2006: It is great fun. I was 3 nights there with 2 times a live show with beatiful boys which you can touch a little and sm show also great.
  • Comment by Jasper, who visited in October 2006: Drakes is brilliant. Don't know what the last guy was talking about. It's OK and the boys are excellent honest and friendly.
  • Anthony wrote in May 2007: Visited Prague Oct 2006, and was at Drakes every night for a full week. The place is amazing, the staff are cute and friendly and the live shows are very erotic. Its not often you are surrounded by three naked fit lads rubbing themselves up against you! Most of the performers are rent, must admit that I had to take one of them back to my apartment for a night and it was worth every penny. I would totally recommend anybody staying in Prague should visit Drakes. I cant wait to go back.
  • David wrote in November 2007: I really don't get some of the negative feedback that's been posted about Drake's. The rent boy presence is fairly low key and they take 'no thanks' for an answer. It's free admission on Sundays between 2 and 5. There are tons of cabins and glory holes and a couple of slings and cages and a really wide selection of porn on display. The downstairs maze area is huge and is a proper maze (but maybe too dark - parts of it are pitch black). I always get off with a good selection of guys. It's a no nonsense sex club. Leave your attitude at the door and go get what you came for!
  • Serdat wrote in November 2007: I have been living in Prague since 2 years now, I go to Drakes very often. Mostly because they also have free internet there. Drakes is in general a very good location. Unfortunately their marketing strategies are fairly bad. They don't support other clubs or regular parties. If there are flyers, these will be Drakes flyers. Further they offer a sex show, special evenings with rebates etc. They have a very nice cruising area and a massive darkroom with a cage and labyrith. Nice guys.
  • Gregory wrote in December 2007: San Francisco 1975. This is how I can best describe my experience at Drakes. Prague even reminds me of SF, hilly, narrow streets, trams, a bustling city that's easily accessible via public transit. My first visit was a few years ago and nothing was going on so I 'wrote it off' of places to visit. I read on gayguide.net comments that it had improved, so checked it out on my visit this November 2007. The place has really changed. Nice bar and seating area, same darkroom areas with glory holes, but much friendlier atmosphere. I was pleasantly shocked when I came out from the darkroom area and noticed the stripper! He looked familiar! After a few minutes I realized that he was a rent boy that I had dated 3 years ago from The Escape Club! After the boys do their number upstairs down to briefs, they go to 'the dungeon' downstairs and bear it all! Drakes also has rent boys and it was a little 'lower key' than The Temple or Escape Club. Met a nice 'straight' boy from the country who was extremely pleasant and passionate! For those who make comments about being 'shocked or appalled' by this club. This is not the place for you to go. It is a sex club for gay men who like raunchy sex, or are looking for a rent boy. Not where you go and discuss the latest Madonna CD or the deal you got on your Prada Jeans!
  • Andreas wrote in January 2008: I have visited Drakes over 20 times since July 2006, and this place is very good. Only minus is the dancers. They are not cute and not sexy (I like slim guys, not oversized body builders).
  • Anthony wrote in February 2008: I visited the place on two consecutive nights and was thoroughly disappointed by my visit. First, i wanted to see strip shows. They advertise that the shows begin on Friday at 10 pm but they did not begin that Friday till 10:20 pm. The bar was sparsely populated with only about 10 people in the audience. The slave cage is advertised to begin at 10:30 pm but there was no evidence that action would begin even at 10:45 pm. The booths were being cruised by older, somewhat overweight men with little or no action. I left only to head to Escapes.
  • Bill wrote in February 2008: I always go to this place when i come to Prague every year. It's always fun. It's the best place to go if you just want to hookup with some cute czech guys and want to cut to the chase and not spend hours and hours in some bar hoping to meet someone. You can play there and also not risk taking some strange guy back to your hotel.
  • Ricky wrote in April 2008: I go to Prague as often as I can as I am a writer, and the city gives me so much insperation as it is a Fairy tale City in more ways than one. My fave bar is Drakes to my mind the best managed and run bar in Prague. It has anything you need as well as friendly staff and careing Management. If you ask them they will gladly look after your belongings and even your wallet without a problem. I make it a point to give them my valuables behind the bar, just for peace of mind in case I get drunk, but being a nice boy I try not to. I have never had a problem, but one should always axpect the unexpected that is just common sense. I say if you do not visit Drakes a few times, of course as you never know? then you have not experienced Praha to its fullest. Take the advice of a traveller whose real home is the World, hope you enjoy, I shall be back in Prague next week and will and I will let you know how it was.
  • Greg wrote in April 2008: just had a fabulous weekend in this great establishment. Can recommend to anyone. Staff customers shows all brilliant.
  • Vincent wrote in July 2008: I visited here on Friday night. The strip show as advertised as starting at 10 but did not start until 11. None of the strippers were Czech and they did not remove their underwear. It was kind of boring. The strippers appeared to be African or Asian and some of them were very short and fat.
  • Munky wrote in August 2008: Visited June 2008. Wow, what a super place, nice normal bar area upstairs, darkroom areas also upstair, but downstairs a superb dungeon. Its a huge area with cage, cabins, light relaxing areas and pitch black areas! Its like going into a secret service interegation area! Unfortunately the night we visited it was very quiet and hardly anyone there, but when its busy it must be a riot!
  • Kevin wrote in September 2008: Visited there a few times and met the delightful Peter, a waiter, who was the best looking guy ever, thanks for the memories. Drakes can be a bit of both, yes I had my money stolen once but I have also met some very hot guys, so you take the good with the bad.
  • Kevin wrote in September 2008: I visited Drake's at the end of August 2008. I didn't know what to expect because all the reviews seemed to be so different. We are from California so here is an American perspective. We got there about 10pm right before they do their shows. It's basically a bar on the first level and then dark rooms on the same level through a door and a downstairs dark room as well. There were no rent boys whatsoever. We had to always go up to the bar to get drinks which we're not that expensive. They have a show that starts at 10pm. Basically, it's just a Chippendale style strip tease where he dances to the music and slowly takes off his clothes. It took about 6 to 7 songs to get him down to his underwear and then the show was over. That dancer is replaced by another dancer who does the same exact thing. The previous dancer then goes downstairs to the dark room where they have a large cage set up in one of the rooms. The dancer is completely nude and various older men are playing with him outside the cage. We called it 'the petting zoo' since all of these older men were petting the young boy. We saw a lot of oral sex being given to the dancer as well. When the dancer upstairs is done with his 6-7 song routine they switch and the boy in the cage goes back up to do another dance and the previous dancer goes down to the stage. This happened for several hours since they only had two dancers. It was a lot of fun. We really didn't see much people in the darkrooms since there were not a lot of people at the bar. It's not scary at all, if anything I was a little board with lack of people at the bar. The architecture of the bar is the best in Prague for a gay bar. The underground rooms having vaulted brick ceilings which is a really neat thing to see. Your ticket costs 190 crowns and is good for 24 hours. The club never shuts down so you can always come back the following day. We stopped by around 8pm the next evening and it didn't cost us anything to get in but there was absolutely nobody there. They do have free Internet so that was a plus as well. I would recommend this place for a quick beer and then head out to Valentino's to go dancing since they are open until 5am.
  • Jason wrote in September 2008: I visited in December 2007. It was terrible. I am so glad I went with my boyfriend. I agree 100% with what Bill experienced in August 2006. In fact I think Bill was generous. All staff were rude and horrible. I found it all to be, a frightening place to visit and would never recommend any of my friends to go there. I would urge no one to go there.
  • Greg wrote in October 2008: Had a great time. Nice guys plenty of action. Well worth a visit. I returned 3 times. Shows at weekend were exciting.
  • Ricky wrote in April 2008: Drakes still well managed with nice staff, and they will take care of your belongings as well as your wallet without a problem and you should if you wish to visit the dark areas out the back. I always give them my valuables and have never had a problem Also a large celler that is open at night, I found it best from thursday on. Worth the small enterrance fee that is good for 24 hrs, just keep your ticket. I was there last year and had a fab time so I am here again in April 2008 and still having a fab time. Well worth a visit.
  • Chris wrote in January 2009: I visited Drake's in January 2009 and really liked it. If you like the Cuckoo's Nest in Amsterdam, you will also like Drake's. It was not as much crowded, but much cleaner. They do have some rent boys, but they are discrete and don't harras you.
  • Steven wrote in May 2009: I have visited Drakes 3 times in April 2009. Lots of action in the cabin area on the first floor and less underground where the huge darkroom is. Nice dancers; all types of men. The stuff is very friendly and nice.
  • Daniel wrote in May 2009: I visited Drake's in April 2009. I went on a Sunday night for their live show at 10pm. Entry was 200 CZK. Soft drinks were reasonable at 50 CZK. There were only about 7 customers there, so for a while I was wondering whether the show would go on? Eventually at 10:30pm the stripper came out. It was only one guy, dancing crazily on stage, for the 7 customers. He was fully clothed 50% of the time, and topless 50% of the time. You could see full nudity for no more than 5 seconds. I went downstairs to the cruise area later to have a look, and it was completely empty. Perhaps Sunday night is not the best time to go to Drake's.
  • Paul wrote in July 2009: Fabulous. Had a really great time. Most organised of all prague clubs. Great guys and great sex.
  • Tom wrote in July 2009: What a let down. Not the great place it used to be especialy when you see the manager surrounded by lovely boys in escape, not drakes. Escape is what drake used to be like.
  • Peter wrote in August 2009: I visited Drakes on a Sunday im August, 2009 and it was the boriest place ever. Staff (well, the one guy there) was nice and explained the place. The dungeon was interesting, but there were literally 5 guys there and they all looked sad. Not sure if it was because it was Sunday, but not worth at all.

  • Comment by Gerald, who visited in June 2005: When I went to leave the club I was told that I must pay a 20 Euro cover charge plus pay the bar tabs for two guys that were sitting at my table. I had already bought these guys drinks that were on my drink tab and that I knew I would pay for. I argued about it and I got out of there in one piece.
  • Comment by John, who visited in August 2005: I have been visiting this club now on a regular basis for over 1 year. If you like the company or like to see attractive young boys then this is the place. There is no entrance fee and you are under no obligation to take home a boy. Although drink prices are rather high, the general opinion is that the live shows going on all night more than justify this. I have never had nor have heard of anyone having a bad experience with one of these boys as they all work for the club and value their jobs. I feel it is important that potential customers are given this information as many men come to Prague looking for younger boys and visit bad and dangerous places such as the railway station. I am always welcomed by the door staff and bar staff and have spoken to many customers over a long period of time who have always had a great time here.
  • Comment by Paul who visited in July 2005: Escape is what you'll want to do the minute you walk in, though you'll be lucky to make it out with your currency in tact. The dancer/prostitutes certainly aren't shy. And some of them are quite easy on the others. Seems to be popular among asian businessmen. If you're looking for a hooker, pick one out and take him back to the hotel before you/he rings up a sizeable bar bill. If you're not looking to buy some company, escape while you can.
  • Comment by Alfredo who visited in August 2005: Finally located the place. Went there with my partner to celebrate our 28th anniversary. Met a Canadian at the gate as we were all looking for the door. Once in, we noticed the contact was only given to those that came in as singles. Waiters were pleasant. Cross street should be given as we looked for the location both in the evening and in the day. Interesting floor shows, but absolutlely right in stating this is a place for those that are looking for younger people.
  • Comment by Jouni who visited in September 2005: Very nice place with good atmosphere and very nice guys. I booked one guy from there - no problem, he did what he promised and he did not steel my money. I can recommend.
  • Comment by Paul, who visited in October 2005: What a ripoff. If you buy someone a drink its 313 crowns. They do not tell you this until its time to pay. Given how deceptive the bar is I fear that the guys will be even worse.
  • Comment by Anton, who visited in Dezember 2005: I am from Ukraine. I came in Prague one month ago. My first club was Escape. Good place, nice boys. I go there very often. And today i will go there.
  • Comment by Billy, who visited in February 2006: I have visited this club about 3 times. Each time i have gone back I have been remembered by a couple of guys. I have bought them drinks but not to excess. Once you say no they will leave you and look for someone else. Remember they are working. If you engage in conversation, eventually the question of buying a drink will arise. However ask the waiter how much the drink will be. They will tell you. Same when you buy your own drink. Go to the bar, the barman will mark your consumption card but ask again how much it is. They will tell you and you can calculate how much you can afford to spend. Dont come out feeling put out cos you feel you've been ripped off. This night club is well known and in my opinion well run. The type of place it is is evident from the gayguides published. There should be no surprises. If young guys naked is not your scene dont go.
  • Comment by Don, who visited in June 2006: Escape is reopened after having been closed for one week due to construction. The club has a stage in the middle, and wooden booths have been replaced with comfortable black leather lounge sofa's. The lighting system is also new and eye catching.
  • Comment by Gordon, who visited in June 2006: Escape is piece of theatre with a sometimes stunning cast. If you look at the evening this way as a theatrical experience, then it's not bad value.
  • Comment by Johnny, who visited in June 2006: Um, okay, it's a rent boy bar. Prostitution is about money, if you haven't figured that out yet. The boys working in this bar are employed by the bar, to make the bar money. What this means is they're not allowed to leave with a customer until that customer has racked up a bill of 900 to 1000 CZK. If everyone just went in there, sat there until they found a boy to go home with, and didn't buy any drinks, then the place would go bankrupt in a month. Duh. Think, people. If you see a boy here you like, the most economical way to go about it is to get his phone number and try to hook up with him during the day. That way you avoid the huge bar tab at the end of the night, and just pay for his services when he's 'off duty.'
  • Comment by Stewart, who visited in June 2006: I have just returned from a lovely weekend in Praha.. I and 2 friends visited Escape on our first night there and returned on our last night (Sunday). We had a great time and were treated with respect and courtesy by both the management, barstaff and boys. It is as is stated an escort bar dressed up as a night club. But this is not a secret and as such you go there with your eyes open! The boys are there to do business and like all business you agree before hand what you will pay for. After that enjoy your evening. All the boys are very clean. I shall return!
  • Comment by John, who visited in July 2006: Just to take up the point made by Gerald who visited Escape in June 2005. Yes, I agree it comes as a bit of the shock to the system when you find you have to pick up the hefty tabs for the boys, even if you have been putting their drinks on your own tab all night. Once you know this is policy then Escape is really a nice place. The boys are fine. They are not out to rob you or harm you like the rough traders hanging out at the railway station. You can relax and feel safe if you bring a boy back with you. I've been there seven times. Once I just had a glass of coke and left after ten minutes and there was no hassle. When I went the whole hog I knew what to expect. There's no pressure put on any customer.
  • Comment by John, who visited in September 2006: I have been to Escape 22 times from March 2004 to only last week August 2006. It is a very friendly place. Very reasonable prices. Yes all the guys that dance and strip are rent boys who want your custom but there is no pressure at all from anyone for you to spend your money. I have taken over 40 guys in total back to my hotel and never had one bad experience.
  • Comment by Larry, who visited in October 2006: Pinocchio and Escape are still great if you want hot young rent boys. I can not believe anyone would not have a good time at either if that is what you want and many do in Prague. Much fun and no hassle and boys glad to go home. Escape 120 USD and Pino 90 USD.
  • Comment by Perry, who visited in September 2006: We went to Escape by mistake. It's clean and freindly. The staff are all polite and welcoming. We didnt realise what kind of place it was until we were in and a bit drunk. Still, enjoyed the shows, never felt pressured to take anyone back. I think if you wanted to hire a sexy young man then you could do worse than go here. Its just not my kind of thing.
  • Comment by Don, who visited in October 2006: This is a prostitution bar above all. I had fun there but it was expensive. After the evening was over, I had spent the equivalent of 300 USD, but that included taking out a guy and also paying a large bar bill. My friend and I were warned to check a boy's bar bill before allowing them to sit with you, but we were having too much fun to be too careful. The guys like to kiss while in the bar and the shows are very sexy which included slow dancing nude (including kissing and groping) with one of the guys (he was nude, I was not). All-in-all it was worth it, but I could have spent a lot less if I had been more careful.
  • Luis wrote in April 2007: I wonder why you only publish comments of dummy Americans who seem to be the only foreign visitors. They seem to be obsessed by money, money and more money. They just talk about how many Euros, Dollars or Koruna the place and the drinks and the boys cost. I am from Paris and found the place lots of fun, full of beautiful escorts and really friendly. A tip to those worried about their dollars: The cheapest is to stay back in Oklahoma, folks.
  • Bill wrote in December 2007: I was there in May 2007. A big rip off, excessive prices, lackluster boys. Having been there many times over the last 9 years, the quality of the boys has diminished, padded drinks are frequent and excessive drug use among the owner and his friends.
  • Franco wrote in March 2008: It is just a place where nice boys exercise their activity as escorts. Some of them dance nicely and show their bodies. Other hang around looking for clients. Nobody actually bothered me and the prices for drinks etc are OK. Pity, there is no way to have sex (not even a "quickie") on premises. If you pick up a boy, you must go elsewhere to have sex (your place, his place, a hotel...): it is not even allowed to take a boy to the gents for a quickie. Everything considered, it is fair to spend 10 or 20 Euros for a couple of drinks and the show of handsome boys dancing and teasing you.
  • Franco wrote in April 2008: I went there knowing what it was: A place for hustlers to try to find clients. No problems whatsoever. Nobody harrassed me. Few times the boys tried to sit next to me but, when told that I preferred to stay alone, they did not bother me further. You can watch nice boys stripping and playing at reasonable prices (few euros for a beer). Pity one cannot have sex on premises, not even a quicky at in the toilet. If you want to have sex, you must go elsewhere (your place or hotels the boys know). Recommended.
  • Greg wrote in April 2008: Very very expensive but nice enough. Strange and unfriendly bearded english man sitting there each night I went who was a bit off putting. I think was the owner but not a bad place to visit if you want expensive drinks and rent boys.
  • Francesco wrote in August 2008: A trap for unsuspecting tourists! Not recommended, is a club where tourists spend a lot of money. Expensive drinks. All rentboys. There are no dark room, strip show are not total! Dont go!
  • Bob wrote in July 2008: I paid the 100 CZK entrance fee and was told there was no minimum consumption. The boys were quite aggressive, which was fine with me since my purpose in visiting Escape was to locate a rentboy. Apparently the deal is that all the dancers are available as rentboys and allowed to solicit within in the club if they perform as dancers. I negotiaoted the 4000 CZK fee down to 3000 CZK for the hottest dancer to meet me at my hotel the next day, which again what I wanted to do. I'm not sure the fee was above what is normally expected but I was very satisfied with the experience.
  • Peter wrote in December 2008: Entrance is now 200 crowns. It says 100 crowns on the outside door, but on the inside door it says 200 crowns. I visited here tonight, what a bore and what a rip off. More average looking hookers than guests. Some cute guys, but nothing to blow your socks off. And asking 4000 crowns per hour to spend time off premises with you.
  • John wrote in December 2008: I was two years ago (2006) and thoroughly enjoyed the show. This time (2008) was less fun. The boys are older and more inhibited. There wasn't a show every night, only on Saturday; otherwise it just involved gogo boys gyrating in boxer shorts. Even on show night when the boxers came off the guys covered their dicks and ran offstage. It's a very pleasant evening, but it could be better. For my taste I'd prefer not to have the fag hags all over the place.
  • Mark wrote in January 2009: Escape Club is really a nice place, If you know what you are getting into. The bar staff and door staff are very nice and polite (especially Tomas!). The boys are friendly and are looking for custom, but they have no problem if you are not interested in them and they still smile and act professional.
  • Daniel wrote in May 2009: I have read so many bad stories about this place online, and I was so worried. But the concerns were unfound. I visited Escape in April 2009, and had a pleasant experience. I did not get ripped off at all. I paid 200 CZK for entry, and 45-85 per drink, no more, no less. The shows were great, including solo show, live oral sex show, and a mega strip (7 guys) show. There were about 15 customers and 15 boys there on a weeknight. Most of the boys were cute. It was a great experience and I don't find it to be a tourist trap at all.
  • James wrote in August 2009: Entrance fee is now 200 crowns. Lots of very cute and friendly bois. Two were actually fighting over me. Current prices for an hour - just oral is about 100 Euro and if you want anal it is about 175 Euro. Great show. The drinks didn't cost any more than they do at a restaurant on Wenceslas Square but you do have to watch your bois tab.

  • Comment by Mike who visited in June 2005: When I visited Praha I found it quiet at Friends Bar, compared to the former location, where it seemed to draw a lot more guys. Part of the reason probably relates to the opening up of a lot of new gay venues in Praha 2, such as TERmix. It is clear that the consolidation of gay venues in Praha 2 is helping all of the bars/clubs there. At the expense of those not located in Praha 2.
  • Comment by Mike who visited in July 2005: Still fabulous. Friendly staff. Very reasonable prices. We indeed went back every night.
  • Comment by Henk, who visited in January 2006: I'm not sure if it's so friendly. And they serve the weak kind of beer for the normal price to unsuspecting foreigners. Not a good sign.
  • Comment by Sreve, who visited in February 2006: I really loved this bar. The staff were very friendly and cute. The atmosphere was relaxed and the music was very good.
  • Comment by Peter, who visited in March 2006: Nice place, but the guys weren't that friendly. So i left;-(
  • Comment by Philippa and Kat, who visited in August 2006: We visited on the first night of our holiday. It was somewhat more subdued than we were expecting, with only a handful of people in the bar on a Friday night (us making up 20%). It had a comfortable atmosphere, however state of the art it was not. And where are all the girls? It was nice for a quiet drink, not for an all nighter.
  • Comment by Elliot, who visited in Septemer 2006: Across the street from the old secret police headquarters, still a police station. Creepy. Friendly bar, mostly locals. The 'dancefloor' was an afterthought. Decor included inexplicable ribbons of cloth hanging from ceiling, plastic foliage and plastic bananas. That said, it had lots of seating and was a comfy place to chat and have a pivo.
  • Comment by Honza, owner of Friends, October 2006: We get busy mostly on Sundays and weekdays. Then of course we host Freedom night every month which gets bigger and bigger every time, with about 1/3 boys and 2/3 girls coming. We also do, every week or two, a special party. Generally we play pop on Wednesdays, latino, house and oldies on Thursdays; Fridays usually a party and Saturdays some really good house djs. The staff that worked at Friebds in March 2006 was fired.
  • KT wrote in March 2007: Went of a Sunday nite with my partner. About 20 guys there. Friendly staff. Chill out venue more than anything else. Did not do dark rooms etc/ Just a few drinks. Moved on to Valentino's after before heading over to Alcatraz. If you need a taxi after as you exit turn left and then the first right. Here you will see a taxi rank outside Tesco to take you on wards. Two bank machines also at the junction.
  • Cemal wrote in March 2008: Though it was not weekend I had a short visit to this place. It was wonderful. The atmosphere was great and the film on the ancient wall was a fantastic idea. I will surely reccommend this place to my gay friends all over.
  • Ricky wrote in April 2008: If you like going down into caves its ok but do not get pissed otherwise you wont get out its so deep and I never found it friendly. I am a Liverpudlian, we talk to almost any one and usually get a response even if its piss off but there well not even that. Need I say more.
  • Michael wrote in April 2008: Definitely a fun place for a few drinks. We were there on a Thursday night where the DJ was spinning some funky chill house groovy kinda tunes. There is a small dance floor. Lighting is fun. Music video projection on a wall. The general ambiance is relaxed. Red velour couches with carefully stitched 'rips' give the place a 'shabby chic' feel. It was fun. Reasonable prices. Friendly and sexy bartenders too!
  • Alan wrote in April 2008: Interesting medium sized cozy neighborhood-bar located sub-basement across the street from the Praha Criminal Police Investigation Complex. Very safe street! Down the two-flight wooden steep staircase you enter into a world of music and drink. Converse with an eclectic mix of singles, couples and groups, just say hello. no attitude. On all sofa coffee tables and bar is a lengthy well-developed drink menu. Courteous service with a smile (bartender corrected the tab when pointed-out). Flimsy small folding gay guide full of ads with little info available (other than a tiny central Praha map with some gay establishments shown) for 70 Crown (should be only free). Euro Video Music Songs projected on curved cellar ceiling, free sax player performance substituted on my one visit, Thursday 10 April 08. Opened later than it's scheduled 6pm, no crowd early. Prices mostly in line with average Tourist Menus, and still going higher in Praha (Wait till the Euro hits in a few months!) Owner and staff friendly, bar is relaxed and comfortable. The beer, Budvar 10 Light, 0,5lt, 30 Crowns (less than a Cola), was perfect on Draft. Daylight arrival not recommended. Grest central location. No kink, sex, s/m, hustlers etc. To be seen, your mom can come with you and be right at home. I saw no cover, entrance, door, minimum fees, but always check yourself, days and events do change.
  • Emil wrote in August 2008: Very quite but very nice place. Bartenders are very nice and friendly. I had few drinks and got to talk to bartender about usually issues of Czech society. It was interesting. Was not that busy but overall nice atmosphere and very cool music. Reminded me of my college days. The best nights according to bartender are during karaoke night and DJ nights. Recommended.
  • Ted wrote in August 2008: We visited Friends, we went there on a Friday night, myself from melbourne and two friends from Germany. Before paying the cover charge l asked if we could go down into the Dungen to see the place. They only let myself down. l got to the bottom of the strairs looked arround and turned back straight out. l said to my friends Girls lets go! What a hole. l think there would have been more fun at a country womens meeting or bingo. We walked the streets looking for other clubs that we had taken notes down of. On our walk we where offered everything form sex with a female prosotute with a dog. l dont know what the dog did or if it was in the price! Or come to thing of it, it was hard to work out who was the dog. So after finding these sleezy little hell holes arround Prague we decided to go back to our hotel and forget about the amazing gay night life of Prague. l dont know in whose imagination that was dreamed up in, but we found it almost like the back streets of Moscow.
  • Bill wrote in August 2008: Friends is just around the corner from the apartment we rented in Prague. Honza, the owner, and all the staff made me feel very welcome. It's a comfortable bar (just be careful negotiating the staircase, especially after a few pints) with good prices and a nice crowd. When I was there it was a Budweiser bar, but don't let that discourage you if you don't like American Budweiser - the Czech version is light years better.
  • Vesku and Jussi wrote in November 2008: Friends was very nice place. Ne and my boyfriend visit 3 times! We like karaoke and people. We live in Finland and i hope we came back soon? We was Prague in August 2008. If you remember us and we like thank you and friends very nice bartender (his t-shirt, amator porn-star was very nice). Have nice time from prague.
  • Alejandro wrote in November 2008: I visited Friends in November 2008 on a weekday. It was a karaoke night full of nice local people. Guys were friendly, some of them very handsome. Bar staff speak English and they accept Euros. Not cruisy but a good place to meet locals and go to other parties. Very central and close to sauna Babylonia.
  • Fuse wrote in December 2008: Karoke night on Monday: The Czechs get crazy. Definately recommended.
  • Martyn wrote in April 2009: We visited Friends last week. The place was empty with just two people in there. We turned around and came straight back out.
  • Martin wrote in May 2009: I just got back from Prague with my partner. We were really excited to go back to Friends because it used to be the only place to go in the city. However, it seems that unless you're Czech and friends with Honza the owner and his gang of irritating friends, then you're just not welcome. I remember when Michael used to own the bar and he made everyone feel really welcome, regardless of age, sex, sexuality or nationality, then some other guys took over for a while and it was really pleasant and fun. But I guess everything changes. It seems that now it just means Honza's Friends, so unless you're Czech, only drink beer, work at Cafe Erra, and are drinking buddies of the owner, don't bother. This used to be a great tourist and expat bar, now it's just cliquey and unpleasant. Try one of the other clubs like Termix or Valentino, or Bar 21. Also, thanks Jean, for such a great site.
  • Michael wrote in May 2009: Visited Friends the evening of May 28. My first night in Prague was a visit to Friends where I though I would begin my orientation. They were out of draft beer, which was OK. I was alone and, as the bar began to fill up with boys mostly young, I sat along and during an hour or so, had no one speak to me except the bartender who only took my order. I asked for a gay guide (a pamplet) and was charged for it. Perhaps if you are very young and handsome and with a group, this might be the best place. For anyone else, not such a good place from my experience.
  • Ross wrote in September 2009: Visited July 2009. Bizarre place, it was dead at midnight! There was a large screen showing the men's synchronised diving from last years olympics, and some strange material hanging over the ceilings. The staff are not that friendly, its quite expensive. The DJ was awful, jumping from one song to another mid-tune, no idea about mixing it would seem. The seating is comfortable and you can sit and have a good chat with friends here, but I wouldnt recommend staying for more than one drink.

  • Andy wrote in August 2009: Ku bar is for the more discerning gay clientelle. It has a reputation as the place to be seen. A very metrosexual bar. The owner is gay, and the bar staff are gay. Because of a strict door policy, it is out of bounds for the regular chech client (a beer here is 4 times the price compared to regular pubs). You find many of the better off gay expats here along with the foreign visitors. It is a very good bar.

  • Ross wrote in September 2009: Visited July 2009. The Piano bar is small, smoky and hot. Entrance is from street level and you go down wooden stairs into the cramped bar. There is an immediate sense that everyone stops talking and looks at you. The clientel are very cliquey and not friendly to strangers. I have been a few times and its always the same. The barmen are friendly enough, but beware, some will charge your more than others. Decor is awful, there are bits of junk attached to every wall and ceiling space. The dancefloor is tiny, hardly anyone dances, probably because the music is awful, its from a jukebox and can switch between Madonna and Metallica and Czech show tunes quite rapidly. If someone with poor taste hogs the jukebox you are in for a bad night! Another word of warning: Toilets. Ladies there is one cubicle. Gents, oh dear, 2 urinals incredibly close together and close to the walls, I dont like being squashed against the person next to me. When he 'shakes' so do you! I avoid this place now I have found much better, friendlier places with better music, facilities and decor.

  • Uv wrote in March 2007: Very nice place, had very pleasant time, felt like as home there, good beer, excellent service for individual meal. Visitors good and interesting for man like me, around 40. Felt very good, cause nice talks with people are possible. Not only questions for sex. Good thing is, that there's no loud music, not far from the youth hostel. Big thanks!
  • Michael wrote in December 2007: We found this bar by accident about 18 months ago, a real favourite! Very Czech and a very mixed gay crowd & friendly to foreigners. They will talk to you and they let their hair down in a way i had'nt seen in any other gay bar. Great music, from Czech folk to pop. Cheap beers. Bo entrance fee.
  • Pavel wrote in December 2008: I have a proposal to add to the description of Klub Streclec. The sometimes very smoky place is most lively on Friday and Saturday nights. On other evenings dont expect it to be full. Inexpensive, good beer, just two kinds of simple but tasty typically Czech food, like cold starters (especially good with the beer). Since 3 years, it is the place where the Czech bears (and admirers) club meet regulary Wednesdays (early evening), however in small numbers (well, the volume makes it). You might meet more on Friday and Saturday night over there. The place has a long tradition of organizing gay (+friends) afternoon boat parties, with drag shows and disco on the river Vltava in town - 4 times per year. Being a very popular event, tickets can be sold out fast.

Fridays and Saturdays at 11 pm shows. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 7 until 9 pm happy hour with 33% discount. There have been times in the history of Pinocchio when it was not a safe place and when the police raided the place regulary. The owner of Pinocchio changed in April 2007. Joe, the new owner (who moved from Los Angeles to Prague) told GayGuide.Net in August 2007: 'I cleaned the place up. It is a good atmosphere now. Some people compare it to a normal gay bar, with the rentboys. We have not had a police raid for over a year. I watch all the boys and I am very anti-drug. As far as price for the boys I do not get involved with all of that. I separate that part of the business. The boys do there thing, and I do mine. The boys do not pressure the customers for sex or money like before. Customers are made to feel at home.'

  • Tom wrote in May 2007: Pinochios has been recently renovated, very nice, awesome little lounge in the back, some cute boys, some not so cute. The thing with Prague rent boys is a lot are straight, so the sex can be somewhat limited and inhibited. The place can be fun, after cover charge, buying myself and some boys drinks I usually spend less than $50 US (in crowns 1000) and enjoy myself. The boys always try for 6000 crowns ($300 us) which is ridiculous, at most they should be asking 2000 to 3000 ($100 to $150). I dont find it dangerous or unfriendly, in fact the bar staff are usually very friendly and the cab service is inexpensive and reasonable.
  • David wrote in June 2007: Remains the best rent-boy bar in Prague. However, when we visited it three times over a three-week period, we found it much quieter than in previous years. Perhaps as a result, rental rates came down to 1000 CZK, versus 1500 CZK in previous years (real rate, not the asking price).
  • Nick wrote in June 2007: I do not recognise the club I know from the comments left by your subscribers. I have been visiting this club since 1998 and I have never had a bad experience, the staff went through a period of anti everybody but that was about 3 years ago. Visited this week June 2007, the place has had a makeover from the new US owner, the boys are cute (pity so many seem to be on something most of the time), the staff are polite (especially the door man who has been there years) and I have never been riped off by the prices. I would actually say that if you are new to Praha into boys (for pay) and like a straight forward approach to the gay sex industry in Praha, then this is the club to start at. The thing to remember is this is not your neighbourhood bar/pub it is what is is a pickup joint for boys, but also you can just go there and admire the scenery and wow! what scenery.
  • Matt wrote in August 2007: Visited here this week, end of July 2007, with my friend Antonio. We met some really cool young guys, the doorman and staff were really very friendly. You have to stay for the strip and oil shows, these guys are hot, highly recommended.
  • Bernard wrote in November 2007: i visited your club yesterday. The defile of underwear was a good idea. The customers dont look like so stupid. The boys are nice. The music was not fantastic.
  • Greg wrote in December 2007: I visited Pinocchios about 7 times in a two week period in October/November 2007. It was fantastic. Drinks reasonably priced, friendly staff and some very nice boys to talk to and to buy drinks for. The services of such a boy ranged from 3500 to 5000 Czech crowns and on all 7 or 8 occasions, the money was well spent. As a previous comment noted, it is however important to agree on everything before you leave the club. The only complaint that I would have about the club is that the seating is not very comfortable. The cavern type theme to the decor, extends to the seating also being a bit rock like and it doesn't really need to be. Go to Pinocchios as it was called. If you are reading this comment then I am sure your are of a similar mind and therefore, would be sure that you will have a good time.
  • Gregoy wrote in December 2007: I have visited this place since 2000 when it was known a Pinnochios. When my friend and I arrived there from The Midwestern USA We were in Seventh Heaven. It was wild! At that time boys as young as 15 were there, stripping, and all available! It is my understanding that there was a police crackdown shortly thereafter and the gay scene in general got cleaned up. Next time we came the club was much more subdued but still had what the club is all about - Rent Boys. It takes a little practice and willpower to negotiate but we never had a problem. On my most recent visit in November of 2007, the club has changed it's name and remodeled. It was more lively, had strippers, and more relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Temple Club is strictly about Rent Boys. They all ask at least twice what they are willing to go for and depends on your negotiating skills what you get. Word of advice: If you are there and there are 30 boys and 10 customers, if the first one doesn't meet your terms. Well its the law of supply and demand. The going rate in the off season was between 1500 and 2000 CZ. For what it's worth -the younger, cuter they are the more they ask and they usually are not that great in providing the services negotiated. A little older straight boy has always worked out much better for my experience.
  • KJ wrote in February 2008: Been going regular and off again next week. Qhat a great place relaxing and easy. Like commented the lads are there if you want them and if not then its fine, after 12 it does go quiet in the meed week. So if you are after a lad then go early. The food is very nice and varied, drinks are reasonable, and the staff are brilliant, at bar and door.
  • Peter & Stephan wrote in August 2008: Me and my friend visited Pinoccio in Juli 2007 for the third time. We found a big differece from before. The new manager Joe was very nice and friendly. Speaking with the guests and the boys, joking and dancing. We really like this club. The boys are very cute and nice, and prices ok. We really like to recommend this club, and the new owner.
  • Michael wrote in November 2008: Visited December 2007. Joe has done an excellent job with renovation and the boys have a renewed and great attitude. No pressures. Just fun. The holiday activities (food, shows) where fun and a very nice touch especially for the boys! I am going back again in two weeks and look forward to it!
  • James wrote in August 2009: I visited the Temple this past Friday night. It was primarily a local older crowd. The few rent bois that were in attendance seemed to mainly be interested in their local clients. The 11 pm show consisted of one dancer who stripped over the course of three songs. Then the show was over.
  • Peter wrote in September 2009: Visited August 2009. I was there this summer, only in the weekends it was busy. I come in Temple 2-3 times in year. There were some new young boys, but most of them were old crew. One boy was great, young 18 years good looking, nice dick, it would be better, when there were more boys like him!

  • KT wrote in March 2007: Went on a Saturday nite in march. Show began at 10:30. Tables were fully booked out in the show area so we ate upstairs before the show. Very nice food and not expensive. Once again a tab system was in place here. Show was very entertaining despite none of it in english. Friendly staff-unfor a lack of english lead to a lot of confusion when we arrived about where to eat, when the show started and an over view of the place. Certainly recommended.
  • George wrote in July 2009: George Visited on a Thursday night for dinner and the show. The food was great and very reasonably priced. If you want to see the show, I would recommend making a reservation so you don't have to sit behind a pole. Also, most of the show is in the local language. The show was entertaining.

  • Comment by Dario, who visited in July 2005: I passed by and I looked in through the window. I saw a small bar and then bunch of eating tables. I don't know, it didn't look like the sort of place you could cruise and meet new people.
  • Comment by Gordon, who visited in June 2006: How can a comment based on a view from a window be valid?. Its a great place. Friendly. And great for meeting czech guys of all ages. I love it.
  • Comment by Andy, who visited in May 2006: Very friendly. Not cruise but easy to get in contact with friendly locals.
  • Comment by Jelte, who visited in August 2006: I visited 2 times. The people are not so very nice and kind to strangers and I had to pay for a old map of Gay Prague 75 CZK. I got a new one 1 Day later for 50 CZK in the Valentino.
  • Jason wrote in March 2007: I Love this place. Cheap beer. About $1-$1.50 per pint. Great relaxed vibe. Fun jukebox with a ridiculously wide variety. I played David Lee Roth, Sinatra and Linkin Park. The language barrier may be an issue, not many tourists will go here. But I met an American and that made it a lot more fun. Not a club, you sit at tables in 3 different rooms. I hear it can get rowdy, but this was an early stop for me most nights. And it's right near the museum.
  • Ken wrote in February 2008: I visited many times when I was in Praha, and had a very nice time always. It was quiet, until they got used to seeing me, but then it was like I was the 'american' and everyone wanted their picture taken with me. I loved the friendlieness and hospitality. I can't wait to return actually. Ken from Las Vegas.
  • Michael wrote in April 2008: Sort of a country and western type pub. Easy to find. Fun for a couple of beers. But very smoky and stale. Mixed crowd of men and women. Seems to be more popular with the locals than with the tourists.
  • Brit wrote in April 2008: I want to tell you a sad story about my visiting at U Rudolfa on 21st of November 2003. It was a cold evening. But after I was very cold, too. I am a norwegian lesbian, at that time I was 60 year old, but it was nothing wrong with my outlook. Slim, smart dressed and sober. I felt imidiately that they don't want me as a guest, they were very unfriendly. When I asked the bar chief polite if the lesbians weren´t welcome he aswered 'sometimes'. 'Do I have to go?' I asked. 'Yes' he said. I was so angry after, because I have been open lesbian in nearly 30 year. And I have been mobbed terribly in four of them. Earlier in my life I have been activist for homo-struggle here in Norway. So, in one way I felt I have been fighting for also this men sitting there. The next day I wrote a letter to the restaurant about this. I get rid of my anger and sadness, but it is a bad memory. I never got an answear. Ok, it is five year since, and maybe U Rudolfa is a better place at this time. I will visit Praha in May and look forward to it. Good luck with your further work!
  • Karl wrote in December 2008: We visited in Nov 2008, found it to be a friendly and comfortable bar. Easy to find with a good mix of age groups.
  • Hugh wrote in December 2008: The place is not nice at all. Waiters are rude and nasty and do not speak English at all. I do not recommend this bar for foreigners.
