General Security Advice
  • At most clubs in Prague you will get a 'drink ticket' - also called consumption card. Your consumption will be noted on this paper. Payment usually is when you leave the place. If you loose the ticket usually a high penalty fee is required. Make sure to be careful with your drink tickets and also check for padding of the bills.
  • If you take someone to your place please take care about your valuables. If your room or apartment has a safe or if there is a safe at the reception of your guest house or hotel please use it.
  • If you take a sexworkers service do not force him to do any practice he don't want. Agree on everything in advance: the cost, the sexual practices wanted, and the time. This prevents many problems from occurring.

  • Oliver wrote in April 2010: We visited Alcatraz on Thursday the 1st of April, and we had a real good time. We arrived at 23h and left around half past one. There were approx. 50 guys in the place. The team was friendly. On every Thursday evening is a naked party, everybody was naked! You put all your clothes in a bag at the entry, and then you go downstairs. Entrance fee costs 100 CZK, and cloakroom fee is 20 CZK. No minimum consumption on Thursdays (Nude) and Sundays (Underwearparty). A half liter beer costs 60 CZK. The public is between 25 and 40, with an average of 35. We had great sex! They also organise piss parties (2010- 29/05, 28/08, 23/10, 18/12) and fist parties (2010- 24/04, 19/06, 18/09, 27/11). The place is a bit far (we walked 30 minutes) from the historical center of Prague, but it is really worth the detour.

  • Billy wrote in September 2011: I visited in Aug 2011 and can only express disappointment. Yes there were dancers on the stage and yes they did strip off but the show was very amateurish. Even one dancer decided to change the music half way through. I think the problem that lies with Drakes is that there is a certain amount of lethargy, whether its passed down from the management I dont know or it could be that because it has existed so long, there is no need to do anything apart from stay open and serve drink. The show could be so much better and perhaps based on similar lines to that of Escape with the two dancers working together. Yes the dungeon has reopened but when you see a naked guy totally out of his comfort zone, one can only feel sorry for the guy. The place needs a shake up, the advertising is out of date and it maybe that the pictures on the website are years old and that the time has come to reintroduce them again.

Gay, Bar, Shows, Rent Boys
Basically it's a male escort club dressed up as a gay nightclub, not a club for cruising, as all the guys under the age of 25 here are looking for money. Stage, booths for sitting. Continuous strip shows and erotic shows from 10 pm. The restaurant inside Escape closed. If you want to meet gay Czechs others than prostitutes you'll not find them here but at many other places in Prague.

  • Jamie visited in September 2011: Sub standard place that should be closed down. I can't believe that the owner is a westerner? Clearly he has a few screws loose as well. It was not busy when I went and it was a Sunday evening. They had a few old men, looking for paedophile material. Young virgins etc. This place tries to class itself as a luxury club, but it is far from luxury, the interior is shoddy and it's so dark that it tries to cover it up. The staff are shit and unwelcoming, and the boys are even worse. They try to be polite, but they are so fake and it really shows. [ Read more ]

  • James wrote in February 2011: I'm not sure what Ken is talking about, I suspect something else was going on with his own attitude and maybe a strange drink which is uncommon in Prague? I've been here MANY times over the years. It's hit or miss - some nights are great, others lousy, but overall it's a good place to just have a beer at the bar if you're alone, meet other tourists to go out to clubs with afterwards, stuff like that. I wouldn't recommend it as a 'pick up' bar so much - most people are there with friends and not looking for sex, but yeah, I've met good people there who I've kept in touch with for years later. Also good of course to sit with friends if you're not alone. Attracts a nice younger local crowd too, very cute guys, but again... They're usually there with their friends and not looking to meet tourists. They have reasonable prices and can make most cocktails I can think of.

  • Comment by Paul, who visited in July 2005: Small cozy bar on side street that is a little difficult to find. Must be buzzed in. Bartenders are very nice but don't speak English. Very Czech crowd, on the youngish side 20s to early 30s. Seems like a first stop for people on Fridays and Saturdays.
  • Comment by Calvin, who visited in November 2005: I visited on my 1st night in Prague. Nice friendly bar staff. Not much English spoken by staff or customers. Drinks are very cheap, I spent less than 300 CZK and drank top shelf Scotch all night.
  • Andrew visited in November 2010: 'This is a great bar. It is close to the centre on a quiet side street. You need to enter a building, walk through to the back and the entrance of the bar is there. The bar is in the cellar. We went two nights and it was busy both nights. Good atmosphere and cheap beer. Would recommend this bar to anyone'

A bar that caters to Prague's trendy fashion crowd and party people, with gay customers being part of the crowd. The male staff seem to be gym-built. Popular at the weekends. If the bar is too busy they close the doors. Nightly DJ performances (Funky house and dance music). Part of the Cafe-Cafe Company (see Cafe page). KU's prices are higher than Prague average.

  • Andy wrote in August 2009: Ku bar is for the more discerning gay clientelle. It has a reputation as the place to be seen. A very metrosexual bar. The owner is gay, and the bar staff are gay. Because of a strict door policy, it is out of bounds for the regular chech client (a beer here is 4 times the price compared to regular pubs). You find many of the better off gay expats here along with the foreign visitors. It is a very good bar.

  • Comment by Paul, who visited in December 2006: A great bar, really made me feel welcome, very different to what I had expected in Prague. Most of the clients were Czech but were happy to chat to me.
  • Richard wrote in January 2007: Not what I expected from the outside, just a single door. A very modern chilled-out bar, great for chatting and drinking.
  • David wrote in June 2010: Visited early June 2010. The club has quite a few guys in their 20s all of whom appear to know each other. It is definitely not an older crowd.
  • Ross wrote in July 2010: Visited in July 2010. Great place, nice atmosphere, very trendy looking. The barstaff tend to have that typical Czech attitude of being aloof and unfriendly, but otherwise a truly pleasant place to spend an evening drinking.
  • Andy wrote in September 2010: Latimerie has a very mixed crowd, all depends on when and which night you go.

  • Frycek wrote in November 2010: We visited the place on a chilly evening in November (there was only one free table - a sign that Museum Cafe is popular, not only with gay people). The waitress was very nice and she managed to understand our broken Czech. Great coffee, moderate prices, wonderful location and friendly people - not only the staff, but also the customers - are 4 reasons to visit the place again.

  • Ross wrote in September 2009: Visited July 2009. The Piano bar is small, smoky and hot. Entrance is from street level and you go down wooden stairs into the cramped bar. There is an immediate sense that everyone stops talking and looks at you. The clientel are very cliquey and not friendly to strangers. I have been a few times and its always the same. The barmen are friendly enough, but beware, some will charge your more than others. Decor is awful, there are bits of junk attached to every wall and ceiling space. The dancefloor is tiny, hardly anyone dances, probably because the music is awful, its from a jukebox and can switch between Madonna and Metallica and Czech show tunes quite rapidly. If someone with poor taste hogs the jukebox you are in for a bad night! Another word of warning: Toilets. Ladies there is one cubicle. Gents, oh dear, 2 urinals incredibly close together and close to the walls, I dont like being squashed against the person next to me. When he 'shakes' so do you! I avoid this place now I have found much better, friendlier places with better music, facilities and decor.
  • Eric wrote in October 2010: I visited Piano Bar in October 2010. My experience was really the opposite of what Ross wrote above. I found Piano Bar a warm and quaint neighborhood Czech bar. Of course it's not a trendy big-city NY/London bar, but that's not what I was expecting or wanting to experience. The bar tender told (he was friendly and spoke english too) that Piano Bar is part of Czech gay history as it was one of the very first gay bars in the Czech Republic after the Iron Curtain fell. As for the environment, the bar is filled with dozens of unique items donated by customers over the years, from a communist era milk bottle to a really creative piece of Czech glass art. The customers are a nice mix of young and older, locals and tourists. You can't really experience this in NY (where I'm from), - this place is uniquely Czech. I say it's definitely worth a visit. The beer was cheap and cold, and the guys were cute, - what more can you want on vacation? :o) P.S. as for the music, yes, the juke box is full of an eclectic mix of music. Top 40 pop, dance/trance, and Czech stuff. You pick what you want to hear.

  • Uv wrote in March 2007: Very nice place, had very pleasant time, felt like as home there, good beer, excellent service for individual meal. Visitors good and interesting for man like me, around 40. Felt very good, cause nice talks with people are possible. Not only questions for sex. Good thing is, that there's no loud music, not far from the youth hostel. Big thanks!
  • Michael wrote in December 2007: We found this bar by accident about 18 months ago, a real favourite! Very Czech and a very mixed gay crowd & friendly to foreigners. They will talk to you and they let their hair down in a way i had'nt seen in any other gay bar. Great music, from Czech folk to pop. Cheap beers. Bo entrance fee.
  • Pavel wrote in December 2008: I have a proposal to add to the description of Klub Streclec. The sometimes very smoky place is most lively on Friday and Saturday nights. On other evenings dont expect it to be full. Inexpensive, good beer, just two kinds of simple but tasty typically Czech food, like cold starters (especially good with the beer). Since 3 years, it is the place where the Czech bears (and admirers) club meet regulary Wednesdays (early evening), however in small numbers (well, the volume makes it). You might meet more on Friday and Saturday night over there. The place has a long tradition of organizing gay (+friends) afternoon boat parties, with drag shows and disco on the river Vltava in town - 4 times per year. Being a very popular event, tickets can be sold out fast.

Club Temple is the new name for Pinocchio since end of October 2007. The club is downstairs. Little Temple Bar (Monty bar was located here until January 2011) is a small cozy bar upstairs. For those looking for male escorts. Disco with boys every day. Fridays and Saturdays at 11 pm shows.
For many years Pinocchio was one of Prague's most knows bars for rent boys and their clients. There have been times in the history of Pinocchio when it was not a safe place and when the police raided the place regulary. The owner of Pinocchio changed in April 2007. Joe, the new owner (who moved from Los Angeles to Prague) told GayGuide.Net in August 2007: 'I cleaned the place up. It is a good atmosphere now. Some people compare it to a normal gay bar, with the rentboys. We have not had a police raid for over a year. I watch all the boys and I am very anti-drug. As far as price for the boys I do not get involved with all of that. I separate that part of the business. The boys do their thing, and I do mine. The boys do not pressure the customers for sex or money like before. Customers are made to feel at home.'
Club Temple daily 8 pm until 4 am; Little Temple Bar 12 noon until 10 pm (checked October 2011)

  • Mark wrote in July 2011: Visited July 2011. Unfortunately over the years Temple gets worse and worse and worse. The owner Joe has worked hard to create a good environment but the rentboy scene in Prague is such that the boys insist on a minimum of at least 2000 CZK for 1 hour of sucking only. The club is empty until 10pm and most of the rentboys have been there for 2, 3 or even 5 years. The bar upstairs, which used to be a haven for new boys, is now closed by 10pm with the same tired expensive boys as downstairs. Unfortunately Prague has gone the way of Amsterdam, it's almost no longer a place to find rentboys.

  • Chris wrote in June 2011: I visited Prague in first week of June 2011. I went to u Rudolpha thinking that it would be a nice place to have beer or two. I walked down the stairs and wanted to go to toilet first. As I was waiting to get to the toilet a man in his fifties came standing in front of me and looked at me from head to toe and said nothing. I didnt say anything and he just stood there with his hands on his hips and kept staring at me. I was like what a hell is he doing. He said something in czech, i said that i was going to toilet. Then he said something that sounded like 'beer'. I said one beer. Then he left. I came from toilet, paid for the beer, sat down and after I had drank it, I left. Never witnessed anything like that in a bar. And i have been travelling quite a lot. And visited many gay bars.
